In an attempt to adjust to the new norms that surround travel and the tourism industry during the Covid-19 pandemic, Barbadian Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley has introduced a 12 month Barbados Welcome Stamp that will allow visitors to work remotely on the island for up to a year at a time.
This visa is meant to appeal to young professionals and pre-retirement individuals whose jobs allow them the freedom to work from anywhere in the world. Minister of Tourism Kerrie Symmonds believes that Barbados would be the ideal place for persons to escape to as, aside from the sun, sand and beaches, the island also boasts "good internet connectivity, high mobile penetration, a good health care system and high standards of education and public service".
Interested persons will need to meet the following requirements to qualify:
Must be 18 years or older
Must have a valid passport
Must have a minimum annual income US$50,000
Must have their own health insurance or be making arrangements to secure health insurance in Barbados
Must undergo a background character check
An individual can also apply on the behalf of the following:
Spouse or long-term partner of 5 years or more
Child or step-child of the principle applicant under the age of 26
any other relative, who is by reason of age or any infirmity of body or mind, wholly dependent on that person for his/her subsistence
